This section of the website is administered by my good friend Jacques Rousseau. At this stage “pledges” remain hypothetical. In late June you will be contacted with bank details in order to initiate the actual deposit in time for financial certification in July.

I decided to pursue this route for four reasons: firstly, in order to get the website up and running as quickly as possible while I investigate banking options and deal with other bureaucratic issues; secondly, to enable time to pass while I hear back from potential institutional funders; thirdly, if events conspire to prevent me from taking up the position offered to be at Harvard, this process will have to remain entirely hypothetical; and finally to avoid the unlikely scenario whereby I receive too much money.

If, in the final analysis, there is an over-run of donated funds, you will be contacted by Jacques and asked if you are prepared to have the money donated to the Treatment Action Campaign’s “Treatment Fund”.

I would prefer not to know what was pledged, so as not to complicate filial and other relationships. If you would like me to know this information, please indicate as much to Jacques in the comments section. I will have knowledge of the names of donors, but not the amount donated, so that I can thank you endlessly!

At this stage I am only trying to reach the target required for financial certification for my first year of study. The side bar measuring the progress of this initiative includes the money I personally can afford to contribute, and funds that I have leveraged through debt.
